My pup Junebug is only a year and a half old, and the sweetest, most patient pup in the world. Despite all the grabbing and over snuggling she gets, she never grumps at us. So when my hubby pretends that Junebug is talking and uses bad words I am a little bit pissy. I would like to think she would never use such language and she behaves more like a lady. Yes, the same pup who has her nose up my cat’s tushy half the time to get the latest news, is a lady. I will admit that sometimes I to use a few adults words when I pretend she is talking, but it just seems wrong. I wonder if dogs are as perfect as we make them out to be. Do they have four letter dog words? How often do they use them on us? I have no doubt in my mind that cats have four letter words. Probably half their vocabulary is bad words. Cats just seem more for mature audiences.

A nobleman from an infamous family, Ben Stiger finds himself freshly assigned to Third Legion, Seventh Company as a lowly lieutenant in the opening stages of war between the Empire and the Kingdom of the Rivan. Third Legion has been tasked with pursuing a retreating Rivan army back to the border where the Empire can take the fight into enemy territory. However, a major obstacle stands in Third Legion’s path: the river Hana. The crossing is sure to be contested and dangerous. Should Third Legion fail to force a crossing, the entire campaign could grind to a disastrous halt.
This is Stiger’s first military appointment. Inexperienced, young and unsure of himself, Stiger is ostracized by his fellow lieutenants. Worse, he’s been placed under the command of an incompetent officer. With life and reputation on the line, he must learn to understand men far beneath his station and lead them into battle. Stiger struggles not only against the enemy, but against his family’s history and his own side to prove himself worthy of serving the empire he loves and earning the respect of the men he leads.
Set amidst the backdrop of an epic war, there are greater forces at work than the young Stiger can even begin to imagine, setting him on the dangerous and lonely path of destiny.

I’ve always been the person that does whatever someone tells me I can’t.
Can’t graduate with a four-point-oh? Check.
Can’t win a modeling contract without trying? Did it. Check.
Can’t make it in the pro football league? Triple check with an MVP Award on top.
When my best friend told me to stay away from his little sister, Layla, it didn’t sound like a challenge. Then again, I’d never seen her before.
He obviously wasn’t thinking about who he was talking to if he believed I could ignore her. I obviously wasn’t thinking of him at all when I fell in love with her either.
Fact of the matter is: I not only fell harder than a quarterback sack on a Sunday night game, but I did us one better. Kind of like that MVP award, only not so shiny. Sort of like my Player of the Year title, except the only thing I’m walking away with is an ex-best friend and a woman that hates my guts.
It’s okay. Just tell me I can’t win her back.
I’m Branch “Lucky” Best and today’s my lucky day.
