Do you know what I like most about my bees? The fact that I set about 1500 new bees next to our other bee colonies and they didn’t say one nasty thing to each other. They just went buzz buzz and went out exploring. I might still be a bit stressed about the new guinea pig. I went through the same thing with the chickens, so I should be used to it by now. Just for the record, I’m not used to it. My fish have never given me any issues. Except for that one murderous guppy. He was weird. He looked cute and innocent, but all the fish avoided him and always swam away in fear when he got close. Now that I am thinking about it, the odds are never really in my favor. A guinea pig with a crooked head, a cat with diabetes, a pup who hates young people and old people, and a murderous guppy. I’m just going to leave the lottery alone.

‘Perfectly paced, with sly wit and a blackly humorous ending’ – Sunday Telegraph

It sounded simple enough.

‘Audrey,’ I said. ‘Audrey, why don’t we go out, for a stroll?’

‘In this weather?’

‘Clear the cobwebs,’ I said, pulling on my boots, and she shrugged her shoulders and said, ‘Why not?’

Cause I’m going to shove you over the bloody cliff, Audrey, that’s why not.

Al Greenwood has decided to kill his wife, and he’s planned the perfect murder. But things don’t turn out quite the way he hoped and Al finds himself committing more crimes to cover his tracks.

Seen through the eyes of the totally despicable yet strangely likeable Al, Cliffhanger is a black comedy at its most thrilling, taking the reader on a hilarious ride through middle England and the murderous psyche.

T.J. Middleton is a unique and exciting voice, full of biting wit. Sharp, original and hugely entertaining, this is crime writing at its bizarre best.

Cliffhanger is the first in T.J. Middleton’s Cliffhanger series. The second, Fish Tale, is available now.
