My gym’s Halloween party was a smash last night. I don’t mean to sound too boastful, but my decorations looked incredible!!! I was happy with how they looked in the day, but lit up at night with spiffy projector lights and flickering candles, it was beyond how I was actually thinking it would turn out. I have to say I was looking a bit awesome as well in my Pink Power Ranger costume, and under the blacklights a glowed like a…. well… I glowed light a Pink Power Ranger. Which might have been the cause of my downfall. About an hour into the party, glowing all pretty and pink, it happened… (deep sigh)…..(pause for effect)…..(another deep sigh, hanging head low)….. Why did they have to serve red wine in a large red Solo cups? Is that about fifty ounces? Because it looked about fifty ounces all down the front of my costume. It took only a second for the party goer to turn me from the Pink Power Ranger to the Red Power Ranger that smelled like a winery. I can think of worse smells, but not the scent I was going for. I was home before the kids went to bed.

After her mother’s untimely death, a twenty-year-old Amish woman has a difficult decision to make: Choose to break from the Plain community and her boyfriend and live in the English world permanently… or join the Amish church. Rachel Hershberger wants to get away from her Amish home in Fields Corner, Ohio. For a year she’s been trying to fill her mother’s shoes by taking care of her father and siblings. She quit her job at the bakery so she would have more time to clean and cook at home. Before her mother died, Rachel was positive she wanted to marry Samuel Weaver, but now she can’t think about wedding plans. She blames her father for her mother’s death. If they had installed a phone in their barn or a shanty, her mother might have received medical help in time to save her life. Her mother’s death has made Rachel question if she should be baptized and join the church. She wonders if non-Amish women live longer and have less stress. Maybe her forty-four-year old mother would still be alive had she left the Amish lifestyle like her sister Carrie did. When her Aunt Carrie invites her to go to the beach, Rachel decides the time away will help her to decide whether to join the Amish church or to live in the English world. She is conflicted because she loves Samuel and her family. Instead of a relaxing time away, disturbing events happen while Rachel’s in Florida. A photographer snaps troublesome pictures of Rachel because of her famous senator uncle, and a handsome and charming college student falls in love with Rachel.

I Hate Piñatas: Surviving Life’s Unexpected Surprises
Heather Maloy
(70 Reviews)
Genre: Parenting & Relationships | Biographies & Memoirs
FREE for a limited time
I Hate Piñatas was the 2015 Independent Publisher Book Awards’ Gold Medalist – Best Adult Non-Fiction E-Book and was given an Honorable Mention in the 2015 San Francisco Book Festival as well as an Indie Excellence Awards’ Finalist – Memoir. Heart surgery doesn’t happen in a vacuum. This is what Heather Maloy learned first-hand when her son, Colman, was diagnosed in utero with a combination of congenital heart defects which are fatal without surgical intervention. I Hate Piñatas is a compelling story of hope and strength that vacillates between heartbreaking and outrageously funny as Maloy takes you through what three heart surgeries in three years looked like for one family. Author’s Note: I Hate Piñatas is not an inspirational book, but rather a true and honest account of what we went through as a family. In my quest to keep it real, there are curse words contained within the story. However, it’s my hope that this book will leave you feeling inspired.

Cadence to Glory: A Novel of the American Revolution
Mary Dearmon
(22 Reviews)
Genre: Historical Fiction
FREE for a limited time
The year is 1773, and rumors of revolution abound. The return of the wealthy Eton family to Williamsburg, Virginia, however, briefly distracts the town’s elite. The youngest Eton son, Thomas, thus reunites with Priscilla Parr, his childhood friend and the now-cynical daughter of a proud Loyalist family. Thomas learns to admire her scathing wit while Priscilla finds herself drawn to his ambitious idealism. He soon introduces her to the radical principles of liberty, the fuel of the colonial rebellion. On the eve of Revolution, however, fate turns against the young lovers, whose families are politically opposed. As the ideological forces within her own home begin to parallel the clash between Britain and the Colonies, Priscilla is unexpectedly faced with a dangerous decision between two rivaling ideals – and destinies. Set against a backdrop of intrigue, espionage, treachery, and romance, “Cadence to Glory” thus chronicles the deepening schism within the Parr family. By exploring the ancient conflicts between youth and age, conviction and neutrality, self-interest and principle, the novel speculates that liberty itself is as natural and inevitable as the coming of age.
