I’m off to the birthday party I didn’t get to plan. I actually have a grumpy look on my face. Okay, I am not entirely unhappy and grumpy. My oldest basset is jumping up and down, excited to go to his party and see all his friends. I have a rather large cake in my hand so things are actually pretty cool right now. Off I go to play a little soccer, maybe get my hubby back for his crazy football move that sent me flying the last time we played, and maybe even work off a little of the cake I have every intention of devouring!!!

In 1908, a vengeful marauder nearly killed his mother, burned their Sierra Nevada ranch house, and exhumed some long-buried family secrets—including the fact that Andy’s father was black. At last, Andy thinks, he can return to University of California and pursue his history doctorate in peace.
